The DC city gov has said they're going to interpret the SCOTUS decision as narrowly as possible. Right now residents can register only revolvers (not semi-autos). Heller and his team have already filed "Heller II" to force the city to abide by the ruling.There are not currently any gun stores in DC and as far as I know, only one resident with an FFL (to handle the transfer of guns per BATFE regs). There was a grace period to allow residents to bring guns they had outside of DC into the city.

It's good that they ruled in favor of the 2nd Amendment. But it's not as great a victory as some would believe. You can now own a gun in Washington DC. But you still have to go through all the government red tape (licensing, background checks, waiting periods) to get one. And the government can still ban certain types of firearms. Like fully automatics.

I like how when mentioning city bureaucrats it shows some guy leaning back playing solitaire on two monitors. Brilliant! LOLCan't wait for him to get to New Hampshire and get involved in the Free State Project.Unfortunately this case has already had unintended consequences because the ruling basically said there are gun privileges and not gun rights. My understanding is that cities across the country are now using that type of language to their advantage to crack down.

I saw Heller speak at the Revolution March and Rally in DC. He told us he was a Free State Project member and would move to New Hampshire to work for liberty in our lifetime. I think he may speak again in New Hampshire at the Liberty Forum in March. I sure hope he does because his story is a very moving one. |
