this is a little old in the making .. but conair (sold at most generic stores like wal-mart) made a flat iron type of thing where you can switch out the plates from a flat iron to a crimper to waves. If you've seen it then you know what i mean .. but it's slightly cheaper and The waves are smaller and easier to work with ... so just an idea

when its been off for a while, make sure its been unplugged and turn it upside down so the the barrel is facing downwards and get a damn cloth a wipe the hairspray off! make sure not to get water in where the barrel and energy section thingy (don't know what its called). (:

if you get hairspray on that, does it still work? i just bought one but its like gold, i guess. and i got hairspray on it, it there any way to get it off?
