for further information on the projects or life in the projects, I do believe "Rachel and Her Children" and "There Are No Children Here" focus in on the Chicago projects. Excellent books that I had to read back in college. The people in the Chicago projects had to fight in order to win on a lot of maintenance issues. It was ridiculous what they had to go through.

LibertyRocks, If you're saying that racism is not the domain of one particular political party, I totally agree. However, regarding Democrats and the Civil Rights Act: The CRA was passed with a Democratic President (LBJ) as well as Democratic majorities in the House and Senate. Today's Republican party would be unrecognizable to Abe Lincoln or MLK. They were Republicans before the G.O.P. adopted the religious right-wing as its base.

i dont know about martin luther king Jr and where u got the information about him being a republican. but assuming frederick douglas was a republican, and how we know Lincoln was too, the party's were different back then. Democrats and Republicans basically flipped views, so back then Republicans were like our Democrats and vice versa. considering to be classified as a democrat u believe in social equality, its hard to argue that they werent democrats.

I grew up there,went to Cooley High and miss "the greens".I miss the closeness that we had there.not like today.I miss the row houses also.

Your dad use to live there? Was it as scary as it looks? How old were you when your father lived there and when did he finally move out? If you don't mind me asking, did he live there because he was that poor and if so, what did they charge for rent there? Who did they pay rent to? It seems that no one really "owned" those buildings, kind of like a squatters right because who would be brave enough to venture in to post eviction notices if someone did not pay their rent?

Sorry for the confusion. I learned a lot from your video - Thank you.I definitely agree that there were a lot of factors that affected CG, not just Daley. Hi LR:I am Daniel's dad. I'm not sure where you got that Daniel blamed conservatism. The Daily machine made financial choices that impacted CG. Daniel purposely didn't mention Dem's or Rep's, because their were several factors that made CG what it was. Facts are facts ad Daniel did a great job of telling the story. I'm sure the people buying drugs on Rush street were both Democrats and Republicans.
